Facebook has provided people symbols, nature symbols, object symbols, place symbols and even special symbols. All of these symbols that you can use on Facebook are also available on Facebook Chat. The Facebook chat gives you a chance to really make your symbols come alive. It is almost parallel to having a live conversation with someone. The Facebook chat symbols allow you to express your emotions and thoughts through emoticon use and will thoroughly keep your conversation entertaining and lively.

Facebook symbols created a way for users to more vividly express themselves. Have you ever had a conversation where you laughed and wanted to do more than simply place an “lol” into the text box? What about wanting to give someone a visual thumbs up while you are talking to him or her? The large selection of Facebook symbols makes this possible! It may seem like a lot to take on as you could be new to Facebook or new to the culture of Internet socialization and if that is the case let’s break a few things down.

Facebook

Facebook is the place where you will connect with all of your friends by sharing statuses, wall posts, pictures, quotes, news articles, and even videos that you have found on the web. Although you are able to share all of these things with your friends, you will find a time that you will be online at the same time as one of those friends and they will type a message to you. This is how you begin a Facebook chat or message.

Facebook Chat, Message or Wall Post

With a chat, message, or wall post you have the chance to visually express yourself like you want. Whether you are simply stopping by to leave a smiley face or sending a message describing what you encountered that day, Facebook symbols allow you to fully complete those expressions.

Wall posts are more publicly visible depending on you and your friend’s privacy settings but feel free to post all of the Facebook symbols that you would like. It may take some time to figure out what symbols fit your conversation best but once you find the ones that you like then it is a lot easier to use Facebook symbols fluently.

Facebook chat and messages work the same way as the wall posts work except the conversation has become a private matter between two people or how ever many people are included in the chat or message. Guess what stays the same, the way that you use the Facebook symbols! Facebook chat symbols are amazing when it comes to personal conversations and Facebook has even added animated stickers for chat that you can use to convey your message. The Facebook stickers are a category for another day though.

Facebook Ticker Symbol

According to Facebook:

Ticker shows you the things you can already see on Facebook, but in real time.

  • Keep up with the latest news as it happens
  • Listen to music with your friends
  • Click or hover over a story to join in the conversation

Keep in mind people can only see the posts, comments and likes that you share with them. So if you share something with friends, only they will see it in ticker (Facebook).

More Symbols:

Other emoticons that can be conveyed on Facebook are

  • Butterfly: Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ
  • Facebook Music Symbols: ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ â™ â™® ♯
  • Card Symbols: ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠, ♡ ♢ ♤ ♧
  • Moon: ☾ ☽
  • Sun: ☼ ☀
  • Snowman: ☃
  • Comet: ☄

Facebook has an instructions page if you feel that you need more precise instructions on how to use symbols. There are also sections in the help page that will help you learn about the Facebook Ticker Symbol as well. The following excerpts come from the Facebook page:

How do I share my feelings or what I’m doing in a status update?

To share how you’re feeling or what you’re doing with an icon in a status update:

  1. Click Update Status on your News Feed, Status on your Timeline or Write Post in an event or group.
  2. Click the smiley face.
  3. Choose Feeling or select what you’re doing (ex: Traveling To) in the drop down.
  4. Choose how you’re feeling or a description of your activity (ex: where you’re traveling to) by clicking one of the suggestions or type a word to find more suggestions. If it isn’t listed, you can type in the whole word and then choose it in the drop down.
  5. To edit how you’re feeling or what you’re doing, click the smiley face and make your changes or click X to remove it from your update. To change your icon, click it in your status update and choose a new one from the dropdown.
  6. Once you’ve added your feeling or activity, finish filling in your status update and click Post. If you choose an activity that involves an authentic Page—like a brand, sports team or movie—that Page will appear in your status update.

If you describe activities like watching a TV show or reading a book, the TV show or book will also appear in the related sections on your About page where you list things you care about. If you don’t have this feature on your About page yet, the activities you share now will appear there when the feature is available to you (Facebook).

Who can see stories about my comments and likes in News Feed and ticker?

People included in the audience of the post can see your comment or like in News Feed or ticker as well as other places around Facebook. You can check who something is shared with by going to the post and hovering over the audience icon.

For example, you might comment on a photo one of your family members posts to just family. A friend of yours, who isn’t included in the audience the photo was shared with, won’t see a story in ticker or News Feed about your comment.

If you aren’t comfortable with who can see the post, don’t like it or comment on it. Learn how to delete a comment or unlike something (Facebook)

You can add an emoticon to your conversation by clicking the smiley face in the lower-right corner of your chat window. If you have other sticker packs downloaded, you may need to scroll to the right to see the emoticons. The emoticon you select will look like a text emoticon until you hit send, and then it will appear as the image. For example: if you choose a smiley face, it will appear in your text box as 🙂 until you hit send. Then, it will appear in the chat as an actual smiley face. You can also send stickers by clicking the smiley face (Facebook).

Facebook symbols were created to help every Facebook user have the ability to convey the emotions that they would usually share in a face-to-face conversation, over the Internet. These symbols have taken Internet communication to a whole new level. They have created enlightening conversations, joyous memories, and tons of hilarious moments for everyone to share. Once you begin using Facebook symbols you will realize just how amazing they are.

The Facebook symbols have even surfaced among current popular technologies as what are now called emoji. Emoji are the best ways to express oneself in conversations on cell phones, tablets and even Mac book computers. All of the emoji that have been created stemmed from the use of the symbols that were created on Facebook. There were different emoticons present on the World Wide Web, however none of them as timeless as the ones that are on Facebook. Facebook created a way for users to express their emotions without the used of fully animated symbols. Sometimes a simple heart symbol added at the end of a message can make a person’s day. The Facebook music symbols added to the end of a few song lyrics can take someone from simply reading the lyrics to even singing the song as they are reading along.

If you have not already learned how useful the Facebook symbols are, why don’t you go ahead and give them a try to see if you will like them. Send a message to a best friend, a relative, or even a significant other and try expressing how much you love them with different Facebook symbols or try telling them about your day simply using the symbols. I guarantee that it will be an experience that will have you putting Facebook symbols in almost every chat or conversation that you find yourself in!
