What You Can Do and how to use inspiring slogans on bullying?

As a parent or teacher, you may be asking yourself what you can do to help prevent bullying. You may even be asking how to help someone you know that is already a victim or that is doing the bullying. Because the truth is even bullies can be considered victims. They do not always realize how destructive their behaviour really is and, in many cases, have deeper psychological issues causing the negative behaviour.

Of course, the best way to help is to try to prevent bullying behaviour before it even starts. This means actively discussing what it means to be a bully not only in person but over the internet as well. Cyber bullying is becoming more and more of an issue. People become accustomed to feeling like they are anonymous behind the walls of the internet and are more likely to say things online that would not normally be voiced in person, especially not publicly. The problem is that the online venue is almost always a public one that may not feel as public as it actually is.

Talk to your children and constantly remind them that what is put on the internet is out there forever for all to see. Remind them that what is not said to someone’s face should not be said behind their backs to someone else in person or behind their back online. Encourage them to think about what it feels like when it happens to them so that they might remember not to do it to someone else, so that they might even stand up for someone else being bullied.

Lastly, if you know someone that is a victim of either traditional bullying or cyber bullying, help him or her find ways to cope. Seek counselling if necessary and watch for signs of deepening depression or suicidal behaviour. There are support groups that can be attended if need be as well. The important thing is for the victim to understand that as painful as bullying can be, it is not what defines what is on the inside of the victim. In fact, it says more about the bully than the victim. Life can and will be better. It is not always the easiest thing to do, but realizing the bully is trying to defeat a person emotionally takes away the bully’s power. Help your children see that they can stand up for themselves and those around them. Change can happen.
