How Attitude Shapes Our Society


An attitude problem usually results from pent-up emotions. People who are insecure about themselves or who feel inferior to others display this kind of temperament. Sometimes it’s a result of multiple disappointments, depression or hopelessness. The only outlet they have is to present a rebellious attitude toward anything, or anyone, they feel antagonistic toward.

How your peers view you can positively or negatively affect your popularity, provided you are around people who regard how others feel. This girl’s display of a bad attitude clearly denotes the negative attitude she has toward life and maybe even about her self-image.

When a teen or adult has a fierce attitude there are two personas you can assume to help them cope:

  • You can give them tough love – make them listen to sound reason.

What Does Attitude Mean?

Attitude definition: the way we think or view someone or something. The definition of attitude goes beyond mere sight; what we see and feel also affects our behavior as well. Some people define attitude as someone’s persona or connect it to a person’s inner self. Attitude meaning can also branch from the present state a person is in whether it is temporary or permanent.

When it comes to boosting your morale having a positive attitude works the same as having a good attitude. Feeling good about yourself begins in your mind. Your identity doesn’t rest solely on how you speak, or the way you dress, or who you are seen with; it starts from within. Your frame of mind can stretch as far as you allow it to. A positive mental attitude can lift you beyond chaotic surroundings, giving you strength to face the biggest challenges.

One of the best attributes of a positive attitude is that it is a beneficial element; a great characteristic you can share with others. Being realistic, you won’t feel like you’re floating on cloud nine every day of your life, but you should aim at developing a positive character to keep a confident outlook. What Is Attitude?

Attitudes can be on the surface – temporary, or deeply rooted factors contributing to our subconsciousness – permanent. Whether superficial or internal, attitudes help mold and shape our personalities. Ironically, some of the lightest, most casual attitudes, and people who make decisions based on their attitudes and inner feelings, can produce life lasting results. The impact of these results can lead to dire consequences that last a life time.

Next to this is the nonchalant attitude. It’s the state of mind of those who don’t really care one way or the other. This is also a form of casual persona. Nonchalant is the opposite of ecstatic or excited. One of the most prominent displays of the ‘pretend’ nonchalant attitude is when teens are on the ticket line for a concert and they pretend not to care whether they get a ticket or not. A lot of human beings are made up in a way that this psychological trick actually works on them.

Every school day morning for the past two weeks you get up feeling slightly depressed – why? The reason is this. There is a boy who passes your locker during classroom changes and flings a rude comment at you. This goes on until another boy outsmarts him with spicy comebacks. Eventually the verbal bully stops. Your feeling toward the spicy back talker is an attitude of gratitude. Standing up for people is a brave and noble thing to do, even in small cases like this. It may not seem like much, but they’ll be grateful for it.

Implicit attitude deals with how we feel about people and things from a sub-conscious perspective. If you hate the color red, you may prefer eating a yellow apple as opposed to eating a red one. If you are an African-American female who prefers light skinned African-American men to dark skinned ones, you may think the light skinned African-American postman is nicer than your dark skinned supervisor at work.

If you feel the attitude you have is not reflective of the person you want to be, then learning how to change your attitude is the first step toward accomplishing the task. Here are some steps on how you can replace your poor attitude with an uplifting attitude.

  1. Think constructively.
  2. Expect success instead of contemplating failure – and when failure does come, view it as character building blocks.
  3. Don’t give up!
  4. Set realistic goals – always remember that you can succeed if you try hard enough.
  5. Respect people.
  6. You can’t get respect if you don’t display it first.
  7. Don’t use others as a measuring stick.
  8. Be yourself – don’t try to be someone or something that doesn’t bring out the real you.
  9. Tell people how you feel.
  10. Don’t bottle in your emotions. Express yourself assertively, but in a courteous manner.
  11. Look your best!
  12. You don’t have to be rich or popular to look good – bring out your best assets with good grooming.
  13. Exercise.
  14. Exercising has a lot to do with feeling good. Try to exercise at least twice a week to keep your blood circulating and chase away lethargic feelings.
  15. Eat right.
  16. Eating healthy has a definite effect on your emotions. Read up on minerals and vitamins; lack of proper nutrition can actually cause depression.
