Am I Addicted To Porn

Am I Addicted To Porn

Porn addiction is similar to other forms of addiction, yet it does not necessarily receive as much attention or press. While you are not taking any sort of a controlled substance, pornography does release specific chemicals into your brain, making you want it more. When orgasm is reached, the brain releases a chemical known as dopamine, which is in the pleasure center of your brain. This makes the orgasm feel that much more desirable and relaxing at the same time. If you typically release these endorphins while watching pornography, the brain starts to connect the two together, so whenever you see content related to porn, the brain starts to stimulate the release of the dopamine, which pushes you further into wanting to watch pornography. All of this makes it more difficult to avoid watching porn and can cause the addiction. Although different from other forms of addictions, it is also similar, due to the chemical alteration of the brain. If you have ever asked yourself “am I addicted to porn,” the very fact that you are asking the question is a step in the right direction. However, you need to understand more about porn addiction in order to answer whether “I am addicted to porn” or not.

A large number of people also watch porn on a regular basis, so wondering if you are addicted to porn is a common thought. However, 100 percent of people with Internet access have at leased viewed one pornographic website inside of the United States, according to the Huffington Post. However, married couples who watch it together do tend to see an increase in their own sexual activities, which can help strengthen the relationship and a marriage. This is not to see it is something you need to try or even find interest in, but the Huffington Post shares some interesting insights into it. 68 percent of men in relationships who regularly watch porn say their partner is aware of it and 52 percent say their partner does not have a problem, while only seven percent state their partner has asked them to stop. Over 54 percent of couples who view pornography together are more likely to perform what they see on the screen with one another.

Help can come in different forms. Naturally, you probably do not want to reach out to friends and family members as many people feel judged if they say they are addicted to porn.
