According to Women’s Services and Resources, the porn industry brings in over $57 billion annually, with $12 billion coming just from the united States. However, not all of this comes directly from Internet based porn or even video content in general. While $20 billion does come from adult videos, with another $7.5 in magazines and $2.5 in cable and pay per view, the Internet alone brings in another $2.5 billion throughout the world. In fact, porn has more revenue than all professional baseball, basketball and football teams in the United States combined. It also has a higher revenue than what CBS, NBC and ABC make combined.

Beyond money, porn has made its way into the Internet and essentially taken over. There are now over 4.2 million porn websites online, which makes up 12 percent of all websites on the Internet. In total, there are 372 million porn pages, which makes it that much easier for someone, even someone who does not mean to, to access porn. 25 percent, or 68 million search engine requests regarding pornographic content is performed and 2.5 billion, or eight percent, of all emails sent on a daily basis are porn related. 35 percent of all downloads made every month is porn based, and while the majority of this content is legal, regardless of what your moral opinion of porn is, with porn growing into the multi billion dollar industry it is, it is also starting to spread to more illegal variations, including child pornography. $3 billion comes in annually just off of child porn, with 100,000 different websites offering child pornography.

Adults and Pornography

Porn is viewed throughout the world, and while many people find nothing wrong with the content, it does influence many people including those who push the idea of not viewing at the adult content. Inside of the United States, 40 million adults visit porn websites on a regular basis. A total of 10 percent of adults admit to having a porn addiction, while another 20 percent of men admit to viewing porn while at work. In general, more men than women view porn, with 72 percent of all men visiting porn websites as opposed to 28 percent. However, women have a slightly different take on porn than men. A women who regularly watches porn is more likely to partake in sex with multiple partners, casual sex or affairs than her male counterpart. A total of 9.4 million women visit adult websites every single month, yet women are twice as likely to favor a chat room over a man.

Children and Watching Porn

While pornography is sanctioned for individuals over the age of 18, a large percentage of the people who view pornography online are actually under this legal age. According to BYU, the average age of someone’s first exposure to porn online is 11 years old. While the majority of children have not yet hit puberty at this time, it does often start a problem where the child beings to return to the porn website and continually view the content. In fact, the largest age demographic of porn viewers is between the ages of 12 and 17. 80 percent of all 15 to 17 year olds report having viewed at multiple hard core porn websites, while 90 percent of children between the ages of 8 and 16 have seen porn online, usually while they do homework. Entering adult based chat rooms can cause some serious problems as well for a child, as 29 percent of all children between the ages of 7 and 17 give out their address freely and 14 percent of all children give out their email.

Pornography can have a significant impact on a child’s life and their future after viewing porn. Children who view porn are more likely to mimic what they see on the screen and are also more likely to partake in sex at a younger age, which increases their chances of having unprotected sex and an unwanted pregnancy. In fact, boys are three times more likely to engage in oral sex after viewing the same thing online than boys who have never seen it, and most boys partake in this act within two years after seeing it for the first time. Girls are twice are likely to engage in oral sex after seeing it for the first time online than those girls who have never seen it, and this is usually within a two to three year time frame of seeing it for the first time.

Watching Porn’s Influence on Marriage

Porn has a strong influence on just about everything it touches. While married couples who watch porn together are more likely to have more sex, improve their sex life and even form a stronger bond together, individuals who watch porn on their own can significantly harm and hinder their marriages. Porn is not something that just affects one ethnicity, religion or age group. It affects everyone. When orgasm is reached the brain released endorphins, which triggers the pleasure center in the brain. If you are viewing porn while your orgasm and release the endorphins, the brain starts to connect the two together. As it places the two together, it increases your desire to orgasm again and release more endorphins into the brain, essentially changing the chemical balance of your mind. To do this, your brain wants to view more porn, and this continues on into a potential addiction. With the makeup of the brain, it does not matter what a person’s background is. It can affect anyone. However, it also can significantly affect someone’s marriage as well. 68 percent of all divorces revolve around someone meeting another partner over the Internet, while another 56 percent of divorces have one person with an obsession with pornography.

Block Out Watching Porn

Porn has become a natural and almost accepted pass time inside of the United States and around the world. While most people do not openly discuss it or talk about porn with their family members and friends, it is something that is out there, and studies suggest that most people at last visit a porn website once a month. You need to determine what is right for you and your family. What is right for you might not be right for someone else. However, it is a proven fact that children who are exposed to porn are more likely to become sexually active at a younger age and are more likely to have unprotected and casual sex as well. Even if these do not lead to problems at a young age, it can lead to issues later on in life as their sexual exploits start to open up and they are exposed to even more of what live has to offer them. Due to this, you might want to consider blocking out porn on your computer system, tablets and smart phones. If you believe you have an addiction, it is possible to seek out help from a local community group. These groups are found at community centers and churches and are a good way to receive support from other people. There are blocking programs out there that allow you to prevent access to porn websites on your computer system.
